Prepare yourself for dangerous wind chill

The coldest air of the season is moving into the Miami Valley tonight sending temperatures plummeting. By daybreak Thursday, temperatures are expected to be near zero to 5 above with wind chill readings expected to range from minus 5 to as cold as minus 15 degrees. Storm Center 7 Chief Meteorologist Eric Elwell said areas with a deep snow pack will experience the coldest readings. "The snow just acts like an air conditioner, keeping the air right above it colder than in areas that do not have snow," Elwell said. Wind gusts of over 15 mph will also generate wind chills that could allow frostbite to form within 10 to 30 minutes on any exposed skin. Temperatures are not forecast to recover much from the morning lows Thursday with high temperatures expected to range from 10 to 15 degrees. Wind chills for much of the day will stay below zero, recovering some by Friday morning.
