DAYTON — Police shot and killed a dog described as a pit bull/boxer mix Wednesday, after it attacked a woman and cat inside a vehicle.
The incident occurred after a woman called 911 around 8:26 a.m. at a home in the 1800 block of Rosemont Boulevard, according to the Dayton police report.
Officers arrived to find the 51-year-old woman struggling with the dog inside a 1995 Buick that was parked inside a garage, according to the report.
Police said the woman was afraid to exit the vehicle because she would have to let go of the seat belt strap she had wrapped around the dog’s neck to keep it at bay and from attacking her and a cat that was also apparently inside the vehicle.
Officers were unsuccessful in using Tasers while the dog was inside the vehicle; after it was let out of the car, the dog charged after the woman but one officer stepped in front of it and fired two shots with the .40 caliber handgun, striking the animal in the chest and lung, according to the report.
