Destruction and devastation struck Shelby County Ohio and the Midwest on April 11, 1965. Commonly known as the Palm Sunday Tornado Outbreak, 47 twisters hit the states of Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio. In the storm, 271 people lost their lives and more than 1,500 were injured, according to the National Weather Service. Locally, an F4 tornado hit Ft. Loramie and north Sidney in Shelby County.
