Passenger dies after car rear-ends semi on I-70 East

UPDATE @ 2:50 p.m.: The Montgomery County Coroner's Office identified the fatal victim as 29-year-old Shaquela Johnson, of Maple Heights in Cuyahoga County Ohio.

UPDATE @ 9:53 a.m.: The initial investigation shows that a semi was slowing down for stopped traffic when a black Volkswagen Passat failed to slow down and slammed into the rear of the semi, according to a release from Huber Heights police.

The Passat's passenger was pronounced dead at the scene and the driver was taken to Miami Valley Hospital, according to the release.

The passenger's identity has not been released pending notification of family.

The driver's condition was not available.

The semi driver was not injured.

The eastbound lanes were closed shortly after units arrived on scene and traffic was diverted at Route 4.

Both drivers are cooperating with the investigation and alcohol is not suspected in this incident, according to Huber Heights police.

UPDATE @ 3:15 a.m. Sept. 6: I-70 East at Route 4 has been reopened as of 3:15 a.m. on Saturday after an accident.

UPDATE @ 11:38 p.m.: Traffic is being diverted at Route 4, around the accident scene on I-70 east, and redirected back onto the eastbound lanes of the interstate.

UPDATE @ 10:37 p.m.: A Montgomery County coroner's investigator has been dispatched to the accident scene on I-70 east.

A vehicle is beneath the rear of a semitrailer, its roof peeled back to the rear seats. Eyewitnesses say at least one person has been killed and a second person has been taken to a hospital.

Witnesses say traffic was stopped and the sedan never appeared to brake at all and slammed into the rear of the semitrailer.

The eastbound lanes of the interstate continue to be shut down at Route 4.

FIRST REPORT: A vehicle accident on I-70 east involving a semitrailer and a passenger vehicle has caused law enforcement to shut down the interstate at Route 4.

We're hearing that the accident could involve an entrapment.

The accident, in the area of the Montgomery County-Clark County line, occurred within the last 10 minutes and several medic units have been dispatched to the scene.
