Springfield firefighter hurt at house fire scene

A firefighter was injured after crews were called this afternoon to a fire at a vacant house.

Springfield firefighters responded just after 2:45 p.m. to a house in the 800 block of Summer Street.

Capt. Kenneth Bowen said flames were showing from the rear of the house when they arrived.

One firefighter had to be taken to Springfield Regional Medical Center, but Bowen declined to say how the firefighter was injured or the severity of his injuries.

A neighbor alerted authorities to the fire. The house was vacant but still had utilities. The cause of the fire is under investigation, he said.
