FedEx driver hospitalized after trying to save packages from fire

A FedEx driver went to the hospital for smoke inhalation after his truck caught fire on Interstate 75 early this morning.

He got outside the truck and tried to disconnect two trailers to protect the packages he was hauling from flames.

It happened just before 4 a.m. in the northbound lanes, near mile marker 76.

Officials at the scene say the brakes on the vehicle caught fire, and the blaze was extinguished by the police officers who first reached the scene.
