The cause of a fire late Friday night remains unknown, however, there was no one inside the building inthe 2200 block of Valley Street at the time of the blaze.
UPDATE @ 2:15 a.m.:
Dayton Fire District Chief Vincent Wiley said the roof collapsed, and that crews will need more specialized equipment and daylight to finish its search and investigation at the building in the 2200 block of Valley Street.
Firefighters early Saturday were not sure whether anyone had been inside the building after neighbors told investigators that workers tended to stay late, and a gate was open when crews arrived on scene.
The search will resume later this morning.
Investigators say they have not been able to get into contact with the building’s owner and are unsure what type of business was at the location.

The bulk of the fire was knocked down, and Vectren arrived on scene to shut off gas service to the structure.

At least one wall has collapsed tonight as flames continue to devour a Valley Street structure.
The building on fire is next to the Johns Auto Parts store in the 2200 block of Valley Street, but it’s not clear if it is a part of the business.
Initially, there have been no reports of injuries as crews are battling this in a defensive mode.
FIRST REPORT
Flames were shooting through the roof Friday night of a single-story commercial building.
Crews were called shortly before 11 p.m. to a building at 2212 Valley St.
The roof was reportedly unstable, so firefighters were not making entry as they battled the blaze, according to initial reports.
