Piqua fire officials are still working to determine the cause of a blaze that broke out on a rig hauling new Ford vehicles on Interstate 75.
Losses from the fire were estimated at $180,000.
The driver was headed southbound near Piqua at about 6 p.m. Monday when he noticed the smoke and pulled over close to exit 82.
He tried to use a fire extinguisher “with no success,” according to the fire report.
All lanes of the highway headed southbound near Piqua were shut down while crews put out the flames.
Five 2015-model vehicles being transported to Kentucky from Detroit were damaged. There were eight vehicles on the car hauler at the time of the fire.
Flames appear to have started on the trailer, but the cause remains under investigation, according to Piqua fire official.
No one was hurt.
