Bomb threat evacuates Springboro High School

UPDATE @ 6:35 p.m.:

An extensive law enforcement investigation is underway after a bomb threat posted on the wall in a girl’s restroom forced the evacuation of Springboro High School.

The high school was evacuated within three minutes once the threat was found shortly before noon, according to a news release from Springboro Community Schools.

Bomb-sniffing dogs from the Dayton Airport police, Miami University and Wright-Patterson Air Force Base responded to the school but did not find any incendiary devices. The building was cleared for students at 2:30 p.m.

Students and staff walked from the high school to the junior high, Educare and Dennis Elementary buildings. Students were allowed back to retrieve their belongings and they were dismissed from the high school.

All district schools dismissed on schedule, and bus routes were able to proceed as normal.

“Out of an abundance of caution, we decided to evacuate the high school, and everyone met the challenges of that evacuation,” Superintendent Todd Petrey stated in the news release. “Our teachers and staff were exceptional, our students were patient and calm, the staff at Dennis Elementary and the junior high adjusted to accommodate the needs of our students.”

The district used OneCall to notify parents of the evacuation, and posted updates on its website and Facebook pages.
