Malia Obama, President Obama's 17-year-old daughter, is set to graduate from high school this spring.

At an event in Detroit, Michigan on Wednesday, the president said he turned down an opportunity to speak at his eldest daughter's graduation ceremony because he'd be too emotional.

"Malia's school asked if I wanted to speak at commencement and I said no,” he said. "I'm going to be wearing dark glasses, and I’m going to cry."

Malia is a senior at Sidwell Friends private school in Washington, D.C. She is expected to start college in the fall, but it's not known which university she will attend.
