Flour sold nationwide at Target, Walmart recalled because of E. coli

Recall Alert- Flour Sold Nationwide at Target, Walmart Recalled Due To E. Coli

— The Food and Drug Administration said Thursday more than 14,000 cases of King Arthur's unbleached flour are being recalled because of the possibility of E. coli contamination, the agency said in a news release.

King Arthur Flour, Inc., of Norwich, Vermont, is voluntarily recalling 14,218 cases of its 5-pound, Unbleached All-Purpose Flour, the FDA said in its release. The bags of flour have been distributed to retailers nationally, including Target and Walmart

In the release, ADM Milling Company notified King Arthur that wheat used in the flour had been linked to an E. coli outbreak.

According to the FDA release, the flour is being pulled from shelves as a precaution. No illnesses have been connected to the flour.

The product has been sold in multiple states, including Connecticut, Delaware, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont and West Virginia.

King Arthur said the recalled products have six specific lot codes and three “Best Used By” dates:

  • Best Used By 12/07/19 LOT: L18A07C
  • Best Used By 12/08/19 LOTS: L18A08A, L18A08B
  • Best Used By 12/14/19 LOTS: L18A14A, L18A14B, L18A14C
"Consumer safety is our top priority, and therefore, we are voluntarily recalling these specific lots of Unbleached All-Purpose Flour to prevent potential illnesses," King Arthur officials said in a statement. "We are committed to educating and reminding consumers that flour is not ready-to-eat, and anything made with flour must be baked before eating."
