Miss Ohio not in the top 15 for Miss America

Miss Ohio Ellen Bryan of  Celina was not among the top 15 in the quest for the Miss America crown of 2012 at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas Saturday night.  Ellen was still all smiles on national television, making her hometownof Celina very proud.

Thursday evening at the pageant, Ellen won a gold medal for the Duke of Edinburgh Award for her community service which included a bike tour last summer to raise money for the Children's Miracle Network in Ohio.

Bryan was crowned Miss Ohio on June 18, 2011 in Mansfield, Ohio. She will continue her reign as Miss Ohio until June of 2012.

Ellen is graduate of Celina High School and Bowling Green State University.

She interned for WCSM AM and FM in Celina in the summer of 2008. The same year she won Miss Lake Festival in her hometown.

Ellen's platform is lightning safety awareness.  Her sister, Christina, was struck by lighning in 2000 and as a result she is wheelchair bound.

Ellen is the second Mercer County woman to compete for the title of Miss America in the past three years. St. Henry's Erica Gelhaus was Miss Ohio 2009.

Saturday night, Miss Wisconsin, Laura Kaeppeler was crowned Miss America. Then 4th runner-up was Miss California, 3rd runner-up was Miss Arizona, 2nd runner-up was Miss New York, and 1st runner-up was Miss Oklahoma.
