Man injured by machete was trying to defend brother

DAYTON — A 50-year-old Dayton man was injured in a machete attack after coming to the aid of his brother.

The siblings, who live on Sherman Street, told Dayton police they got into an argument with their neighbor, later identified as Johnny L. Polson, 55, around 8:45 p.m. Friday, according to the Dayton police report.

An argument about the suspect’s daughter was sparked off between Polson and the victim’s 61-year-old brother.

Polson reportedly pulled out a machete, and the 61-year-old man yelled for his brother to come help him.

That’s when the victim reportedly reached up to stop the swinging machete as Polson brought it down. The victim’s hand was cut and he was taken to Miami Valley Hospital for stitches.

Snow showers arrive tonight; up to 2 inches for some by Sunday

The two men engaged in the original dispute were both intoxicated, the police report indicates.

Polson is in Montgomery County Jail on a charge of felonious assault. He is due Monday for arraignment in Dayton Municipal Court, online jail records show.
