Locking grocery cart technology thwarts theft attempt

Wheel-locking technology on a grocery cart stopped a possible theft suspect from taking nearly $300 in groceries.

Victor Sanchez, 37, is now in Montgomery County Jail on a charge of theft.

Dayton police were called to the Kroger at 4506 Brandt Pike around 6:20 p.m. May 18 for a man with security officers.

Sanchez is accused of filling a cart with $289 in groceries and trying to leave the store. The police report cites new cart technology that locks the wheels when it does not go through a check out.
