Slick spots still possible; messy morning commute ahead

Quiet tonight but snow will arrive just in time for the morning commute.

  • Snow and rain with storm Thursday (messy morning commute)
  • Another winter storm this weekend with accumulations possible
  • Frigid temps, dangerous wind chills Sunday into Monday

Overnight: Cloudy and cold conditions overnight with lows dropping into the upper 20s, Storm Center 7 Chief Meteorologist McCall Vrydaghs said. Snow showers will arrive from the west before daybreak, just in time for the morning commute.

Thursday: Snow likely in the morning will lead to some slick roads for the morning commute. A light accumulation of a coating to ½ inch in spots is possible before lunchtime.

Winter Weather Advisory will be in effect from 4 to 10 a.m. for Randolph County, Indiana.

Temperatures for the day will vary from north to south, with highs generally near the middle 30s for Dayton.

Most areas along and south of Interstate 70 will warm into the upper 30s and see some light rain showers during the afternoon. Further north, Champaign, Darke, Logan, Mercer and Shelby counties may stay all snow with some locally higher snow totals, perhaps an inch or two, before the snow wraps up into the evening.

A few flurries or snow showers may return after midnight as winds turn out of the northwest. Refreeze is likely as temperatures fall below freezing Thursday night.

Friday: A break between systems. Broken clouds with temperatures in the mid-30s.

Saturday: Snow is expected to start the day, but some could see a wintry mix. Highs will be in the lower to middle 30s. It also will become windy.

Sunday: Early morning snow showers will taper off and lead to a cold and blustery day. Temperatures start in the low teens and only climb to about 14 degrees for the afternoon. Cloudy skies gradually break as the coldest air of the season is expected to move in.
