Excessive Heat Warning in effect as temperatures soar

An Excessive Heat Warning is in effect for the entire region until 8 p.m. Saturday. Heat stroke, heat exhaustion and other heat-related illnesses will be possible for those who spend a significant amount of time outdoors or are involved in strenuous outdoor activity. Reduce outdoor activities, take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning. Heat stroke is an emergency, call 911 if you experience symptoms.

Overnight: It will be mainly clear, warm and muggy overnight with lows around the middle 70s, Storm Center Chief Meteorologist McCall Vrydaghs said. A few areas of patchy fog are possible by daybreak.

Friday: Another partly cloudy, hot and humid day. Highs are expected in the mid-90s, but it will feel like 110 degrees.

Saturday: The weekend starts with a mostly sunny and hot day with highs in the mid-90s. The heat index will rise to around 110 degrees again. There's a slight chance of a few pop-up storms.

Sunday: Partly cloudy and hot again with highs in the mid-90s. The heat index will rise into the low 100s. Showers and storms are likely to develop from the north into the afternoon and evening.

Monday: It will be mostly sunny, warm and muggy. We get a break from the extreme heat with the high temperature in the middle 80s. A few showers and storms are possible.
