Votto to continue injury rehab assignment with Dayton Dragons tonight

DAYTON — Cincinnati Reds all-star first baseman Joey Votto is expected to continue an injury rehabilitation assignment with the Dayton Dragons tonight at Day Air Ballpark.

The six-time all-star began his rehab assignment at Triple-A Louisville on Saturday. He’s been on the COVID-19 injured list since May 3, according to CBS Sports.

The Dragons play tonight at 7:05 p.m. against the Quad Cities River Bandits.

Votto would become the 38th Reds player to complete an injury rehab assignment with the Dragons and the second of this season. Pitcher Luis Castillo made a start with the Dragons on April 24.

This assignment would also mark Votto’s third rehab assignment with the Dragons. He previously appeared in Midwest League games in 2009 and 2012, according to a release.

A familiar face with the Dragons, Votto played in Dayton in 2004 and 2005 as a Minor League prospect.

Votto was the National League MVP in 2010 and a Gold Glove winner in 2011.

Votto is in his 16th year in the Major Leagues with the Reds.
