2-vehicle fire considered suspicious in Miami County, officials say

Officials are investigating after two vehicles were found fully engulfed Saturday morning in Piqua.

Emergency crews were dispatched to the 800 block of West Water Street around 4:10 a.m.

The Piqua Fire Department considered the fires suspicious and collected items from the vehicles, a white 1999 GMC Sierra pickup and a white 1999 Chevrolet SUV, to test for any accelerant, according to Lt. Rick Byron of the Piqua Police Department.

If the fires were arson, there are no suspects, Byron said.

The owners of the vehicles were sleeping at the time and did not know who would have caused the fires.

The vehicles were parked on a residential street.

A passerby alerted the owners of the fires outside of their homes.

The flames were successfully put out without any damage being caused to nearby structures or vehicles.
