USA Truck forklift operator surprised with ‘National Lifesaving Award’

TIPP CITY — A forklift operator from Dayton received an unexpected honor on Thursday for saving a truck driver’s life.

The Alabama truck driver collapsed in November after delivering a load to the USA Truck terminal in Tipp City.

Ansel Cummings immediately called 911, then performed CPR until medics arrived.

He walked into a surprise presentation from the American Red Cross as dozens gathered to applaud him for his heroic act.

“I just feel like it’s our duty as humans to do what’s right, to take on the burden of helping each other when we need to help them, regardless or not if we get recognized,” Cummings said.

In addition to the award, USA Truck gave Cummings a $1,000 check.
