Janice Spindler, 76, was identified as the victim killed in the crash. The passenger, a man who was not identified, suffered non-life threatening injuries, according to the state patrol supervisor. Both were wearing their seat belts.

The preliminary investigation shows their silver 2020 Kia went left off the roadway for unknown reason and slammed into the rear of a work truck, which was parked and unoccupied.

None of the crew members, working in front of the truck several hundred feet away, was injured in the crash, which forced southbound traffic into one lane for approximately 3 hours for the accident investigation.

Troopers were assisted by crews from the Ohio Department of Transportation, the Miami County Sheriff’s Office and the Troy Fire Department.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
