Tipp City police want residents, businesses to register security cameras

TIPP CITY — The Tipp City Police Department is following in the footsteps of another local community and encouraging citizens to register their personal home or business security cameras with the department.

In a Facebook post, Tipp City PD said they hope to create a map of homes and businesses with cameras that can be used in the event of a crime.

If a crime occurs, police would reach out to those with registered cameras in the area of the crime to obtain footage that could have captured helpful evidence.

Vandalia police have also recently started looking to get people to register their home or business cameras with the police department.

Police in Tipp City said they will not have access to registered cameras and would not be able to view to footage without the owner’s permission.
