Tipp City honored as Purple Heart City during ceremony

It was a proud moment today for the citizens of Tipp City as their community was honored as a Purple Heart City during a ceremony at the city council meeting.

Members of the Ohio Chapter of the Military Order of the Purple Heart Honor Guard made the presentation to the Mayor.

The medal dates back to 1782 when General George Washington created the badge of “military merit.” The Purple Heart has been awarded since then to an estimated 1.7 million people.

National Purple Heart Day is observed on August 7.
