SPRINGBORO — It only took 30 minutes for thieves to charge more than $3,000 to credit cards stolen from a purse taken from an unlocked vehicle outside a daycare.

The purse was taken around 5:20 p.m. Wednesday from a minivan while a parent was inside the Goddard School of Springboro, 705 Gardner Road, to pick up a child.

Video surveillance showed a silver Mazda enter the front lot and back into a parking space between two vehicles, according to a letter to parents from the daycare.

Goddard staff said they turned over the video, which also captured a partial license plate of the suspect’s car, to the Springboro Police Department.

“We consider this a brazen act considering the obvious surveillance cameras in plain view and the time of day the incident occurred,” the letter stated.

Within 30 minutes, the suspect charged $3,000 to the stolen credit cards and purchased gift cards at a nearby Kroger.

Springboro police confirmed they are investigating the incident, and urged residents to keep vehicles locked and valuables hidden.
