‘They absolutely have hearts of gold;’ Motorcyclists donate thousands of dollars of toys to children

DAYTON — A group of motorcyclists came together to help make sure children in Montgomery County’s care don’t go without a Christmas gift this year.

The Ohio Coalition of Clubs donated more than $10,000 worth of toys and gifts to children at Haines Children Center in Dayton.

Gifts included multiple bicycles and playsets.

Montgomery County Commissioner Carolyn Rice said gestures like this show the children that they are still cared for.

“They need to know every day despite their circumstances that we, the community, and those who take care of them within Montgomery county, love them and want only the best for them and we’re invested in them to have a better future,” Rice said.

Craig Rickett, associate director for Montgomery County Children Services said the OCC are no strangers to helping local children in need.

The group donated backpacks full of school supplies to children at the beginning of the school year and held an easter egg hunt for them in April.

“This partnership is nothing short of amazing and they seem to surprise us every single passing holiday with more and more that they do for the children, which is deeply appreciated and absolutely fantastic,” Rickett said.

Rice encouraged the public to think of motorcyclists in a different light.

“They absolutely have hearts of gold,” she said.
