Man arrested after SWAT standoff in Jefferson Twp.

JEFFERSON TWP., Montgomery County — A man is in custody after he barricaded himself in the basement of a house on state Route 4 Monday afternoon prompting an hours long standoff, said Montgomery County Sheriff Rob Streck

Deputies were called out to the house near the intersection of Route 4 and Farmersville-West Carrollton Road around 10:30 a.m., Streck said. Crews were initially called to the scene on a report of an aggravated menacing incident.

Streck said investigators were able to fire gas into the basement and the suspect came out within about three minutes.

“The days of just kicking in doors and going in are over,” Streck said. “Gas is one of the first things we try.”

Streck said the suspect could face charges of felonious assault and inducing panic in addition to the previous warrant he had for receiving stolen property.

When deputies arrived everyone inside of the home slowly came out besides the suspect, who was reportedly making threats, Streck said.

The suspect’s name was not immediately available.
