Suspicious activity evacuates Northmont HS in Clayton

CLAYTON — UPDATE @ 6:50 p.m.

Northmont City Schools Superintendent Tony Thomas said the high school was evacuated for suspicious activity reported by parents at the elementary wrestling tournament.

Thomas did not elaborate on the nature of the suspicious activity.

A parent said she had to wait outside Northmont High School more more than an hour, and that she was told by wrestling coaches that the incident was due to a possible bomb threat.

“We were about 10 or 12 minutes away from finishing the meet, about 10 (minutes) till 4 (p.m.) and we were asked to leave due to the fire marshal for a non-emergency. They did ask us to leave quickly, to leave things and just leave,” said Andrea Peterson, whose children go to Tipp City Schools.

Peterson said there were about 10 to 15 schools represented at the meet and that the evacuation was orderly but that no one seemed to know what was going on. “I’m glad they took the threat seriously. I’m glad that everybody is safe,” Peterson said.

Police did not find anything and cleared the scene shortly before 6 p.m.

In addition to Clayton police, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and a police K-9 responded to the school. Police cleared the scene just before 6 p.m.

We’re working to find out what led to the call.
