Susan G. Koman Race for the Cure held virtually, over $200,000 raised in Columbus

COLUMBUS — This year’s Susan G. Koman Race for the Cure was held virtually for the second year in a row on Saturday. The tradition of an in-person parade continued for the 29th year in Columbus.

According to our News Partners at 10TV, more than 30 breast cancer survivors and those currently undergoing treatment gathered at Columbus’ Hope Parade to support the cause.

The parade was held at the Easton Town Center.

Lydia Kemerling Back, who is a breast cancer survivor, told 10TV the event and parade were inspiring.

“Whether it’s been a day of survival or 22 years of survival. It’s just hearing all the stories and the journeys everyone has been through and sharing the stories. It’s a sisterhood and a brotherhood,” Kemerling Back said.

According to the organization’s website, the event is an educational and fundraising event for breast cancer. 5K runs and fitness walks are organized across the county to raise funds and awareness for the breast cancer. The events celebrate breast cancer survivorship and honor those who have lost their lives to breast cancer.

The organization’s website said the Columbus event raised more $200,000 dollars.

Columbus’ event was one of five in Ohio scheduled for this year.
