Police: No charges filed against man previously suspected of abducting girlfriend in Springfield

UPDATE @ 4:27 a.m.:

Springfield police are no longer searching for Jeremy Barclay and his girlfriend, who they previously said he abducted.

Investigators have talked to the couple, and decided not to file charges against Barclay, Springfield police Lt. Randall Ballentine said early Tuesday morning. That’s because the woman told officers she was not abducted, and she was never in danger, Ballentine said.

Police launched their investigation last Monday night and started their search for Barclay because a passerby reported that he fired shots at his girlfriend and abducted her, Ballentine said. Investigators are now trying to piece together why such a report was filed in the first place, he said.

FIRST REPORT:

Area law enforcement agencies have been alerted to be on the lookout for a man who reportedly abducted a woman Monday night from an address on Southwestern Avenue in Springfield.

The suspect is identified as Jeremy Barclay, 29, who is accused of forcing a 27-year-old woman identified as his girlfriend into a tan 2001 Buick LeSabre after firing at least one shot past her.

According to a BOLO alert issued by the Springfield Police Division, there was a a second person in the car. That person is not known to police.

Barclary, according to the BOLO, is in possession of "multiple loaded AR mags" believed to be in the car, body armor and other ammo.

Police Lt. Matt Buynak said Barclay’s last known address was on Old Arthur Road in Clark County.

Little is known about the woman, he said.

The incident reportedly occurred about 9:30 p.m. and police aren’t sure where Barclay has taken the woman, the lieutenant said.

Barclay is wanted by police on at least one warrant on a charge of assault, Buynak said. Barclay is sought by the Clark County Sheriff's Office as well on outstanding warrants.

If you know of Barclay's whereabouts or have seen a car that fits the description mentioned in the BOLO, you are asked to call Springfield police at 937-324-7685.
