Shooting, stabbing victims show up to Dayton hospital minutes apart

DAYTON — A stabbing victim and a shooting victim showed up to Miami Valley Hospital within 10 minutes of each other Monday morning, authorities confirm.

Police were dispatched to the hospital, located at One Wyoming Street, for the first victim, a man, who showed up with a stab wound around 2:40 a.m. The second victim entered the emergency room at 2:50 a.m. with a gunshot wound.

The 24-year-old stabbing victim, who required minor stitches, told police he was accidentally stabbed in his left inner forearm by a woman who was playing with a black kitchen knife while they were talking in a parked car in the 700 block of Upland Ave. in Dayton, according to a Dayton police report.

The man told police he was cut when he tried to wave the knife away from him while telling his date to “stop playing around with that knife,” according to the Dayton police report.

He said the woman apologized and that he did not know why hospital staff reported the injury to police.

The 33-year-old man with a gunshot wound told police it happened in the 1600 block of North Main Street, according to a Dayton police report.

There was no further information about what led to the shooting, and the severity of the victim’s injuries was not reported.
