Man shot at gas pump in Springfield just feet away from school

SPRINGFIELD — UPDATE @ 1 p.m.:

A man standing at a gas pump at a Sunoco station in Springfield was hit by gunfire today and rushed to Springfield Regional Medical Center.

The shots were fired around noon across the street from the Springfield City School District’s School of Innovation at the corner of East Street and Selma Road. A school bus was parked outside the school at the time of the shooting.

We’re checking to see whether the school was placed on lockdown.

The gunshot victim was alert as he was put into a medic. He was with a woman, standing outside his car parked at a gas pump when multiple shots were fired by an unknown man who fled in a car.

Police are reviewing security video from the gas station and the school may also have surveillance video.

A shooting has been reported outside the Sunoco station at the corner of East Street and Selma Road.

A man was loaded onto a medic and appeared to be alert, however we are working to confirm his condition.

The shooting was reported around noon.
