Semitrailer driver cited in crash on state Route 72 North near Cedarville

UPDATE @ 10:58 p.m.: The driver of the semitrailer that ended up on its side on state Route 72 North, near Cedarville, lost control of the big rig when he bent over to pick up a piece of paper off the floorboard, said Sgt. Richard Milstead, Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The semi, its trailer full of cardboard, went off the right side of the road headed north and struck a tree, the sergeant said.

The driver was cited for failure to maintain reasonable control. He wasn’t injured, Milstead said, but was taken to a hospital for drug testing required by his employer.

The road was shut down at least an hour. Sandy’s Towing was called in to right the rig.

INITIAL REPORT

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is on the scene of a semitrailer that has crashed and ended up on its side in the 2000 block of state Route 72 North, near Cedarville.

The accident was reported just before 8 p.m. We’re hearing the driver apparently escaped unhurt.

The scene is in the southbound lane, between Trumbull and Federal roads.
