MIAMI TWP. — UPDATE @ 6:22 p.m.: Miami Twp. has appointed a University of Dayton graduate as its newest trustee.
Attorney Terry Posey Jr. has been selected from among five applicants to fill the vacancy created after Doug Barry chose not to seek re-election in November.
Trustees John Morris and Don Culp voted Tuesday night to appoint Posey, a private practice attorney and UD School of Law graduate.
Posey, a Miami Twp. resident for several years, earned his bachelor’s at the University of Virginia.
He works with the law partnership of Gottschlich & Portune.
Posey also sits on the board of trustees and the executive committee for the Dayton Society of Natural History.
A new Miami Twp. trustee is expected to be appointed tonight.
Trustees are scheduled to vote on a person to fill a vacancy after Doug Barry opted not to seek re-election for a term that ended last month.
Those seeking to fill the vacancy, according to Miami Twp. records, include:
• Mark Langdon, a real estate broker.
• Bob Matthews, a business analyst and former trustee.
• Terry Posey Jr., an attorney.
• Randy Russell, a small business owner.
• Jason Schafer, a business executive.
Trustee John Morris said last week officials have reviewed the applicants for the seat, which pays about $20,000 a year.
Morris said he and Trustee Don Culp plan to vote on a candidate tonight, but declined to identify that person.
The chosen candidate will serve out the remainder of the term of the seat formerly occupied by Culp.
Culp, who was elected to a four-year term in 2017, in November ran unopposed for the seat formerly occupied by Barry.
Culp then resigned the seat to which he was elected two years ago.
Trustees are set to meet at 6 p.m. in the Miami Twp. Government Center, 2700 Lyons Road.
