Search continues for escaped West Virginia inmate with Dayton ties

WELCH, W. Va. — A 39-year-old man who escaped from a corrections center in West Virginia on Sunday has connections to the Dayton area, according to multiple reports.

Charles Wentz escaped from Steven’s Correctional Center in McDowell County, West Virginia, according to reports from the Associated Press and CBS affiliate WOWK-TV in Huntington.

He is described as 6-feet 1-inches tall, weighing 170 pounds, with blue eyes and brown hair, according to media reports.

Wentz was initially incarcerated for fleeing from an officer in a vehicle, felony DUI, grand larceny and other offences, according to the Associated Press.

State troopers in West Virginia said Wentz is considered armed and dangerous, with connections to Huntington, as well as the Dayton area.

Local police and state troopers have not been notified of Wentz’s escape, and were not actively searching in the Dayton area for him.

Authorities in West Virginia urge anyone with information on Wentz’s whereabouts to contact the West Virginia State Police at 304-256-6700.

Welsh, located in McDowell County, is in the southwest corner of West Virginia, and is about 130 miles south of Huntington.
