RTA driver helps boy, 4, running alone along busy road

CENTERVILLE — A Greater Dayton RTA bus driver is being recognized for his actions after a 4-year-old boy was spotted running alone along Bigger Road late last month.

Kevin Frazier was driving his route in the area of Bigger and Thomas Paine Parkway on June 27, when the boy was running up Bigger with no shoes on, surveillance video from RTA showed.

“Oh my God,” Frazier said as the young boy got onto the bus when it came to a stop.

“Well, we’re going to be a minute though, because I’m not leaving him,” the driver told a passenger on the bus.

The passenger asked Frazier, “Wonder where his parents are at?”

Frazier said, “We’re about to find out.”

A short time later police boarded the bus and spoke to the boy.

RTA said the boy was returned home safely and reunited with his family.

Police said they don’t anticipate charges in the case.

A painter had been doing some work in the apartment where the boy was staying in at The Woods of Centerville and left a gate open when he left, leading to the boy being able to escape.
