A man in his late 20s to mid-30s was filling up his vehicle at the Marathon station, Main Street and Ridge Avenue, at about 5:30 p.m. when another man at the gas pumps pulled out a gun, Dayton Sgt. John Riegel told News Center 7.

"During the struggle, the suspect had the gun taken away from him and was shot in the hand," Riegel said, noting that the bullet is believed to have gone through the assailant's hand. His injury was not life threatening and he was taken to the hospital.

"Both subjects were at the gas pumps, and the suspect came after the victim," Riegel said.

A police cruiser was in the area not long after the incident and both men were taken into custody. Surveillance video from the gas station told the story of what happened, Riegel said.

The assailant will be charged with robbery, the sergeant said.

Police found a black handgun in one the bucket-style recepticles where squeegies and windshield cleaning fluid are kept.
