Work on Ohio 741 in Miami Twp. near the Dayton Mall is continuing with pedestrian safety upgrades officials say are targeted to be complete before summer.
The $1.8 million project on Lyons Road and Ohio 741 is adding asphalt and concrete paths along Lyons from Byers Road — including across the overpass to I-75 — to the state route, where a sidewalk is being added on the west side across from the mall, officials said.
Contractors “will be completing quite a bit of work over the next month,” Miami Twp. Community Development Director Chris Snyder told trustees this week.
“They will probably be paving the actual path in May and are still aiming for early June for completion of that project,” he added.
During the work, traffic will be maintained along Lyons and Ohio 741, but it will be shifted away from construction zones for the safety of workers and the public, according to the township.
“We certainly appreciate the public’s patience with some of the traffic delays and some issues,” Snyder said. “But we should see a lot of improvement over the next month and half and certainly a vast improvement for the pedestrians once that project is completed.”
Specific work, according to the township, includes:
•A 10-feet wide asphalt walk along the south side of Lyons from Byers, excluding the bridge;
•A 14-feet wide path along the south side of the Lyons bridge over I-75 will allow for a barrier across the bridge;
•An eight-feet wide concrete walk along the west side of Ohio 741 from Lyons to connect to an existing walk to allow for safer pedestrian access, and
•Curbs and gutters;
Lyons also is being resurfaced within the project limits, excluding the bridge.
