Richmond man killed in Wayne County, Indiana crash Thursday morning

WAYNE COUNTY, Indiana — A Richmond man was killed in a single-vehicle crash on U.S. 227 in Wayne County, Indiana early Thursday morning, according to the Indiana State Police.

William Caleb Miller, 28, was identified as the driver killed in the crash on U.S. 227 near Gaar Road north of Richmond.

A preliminary investigation found Miller was traveling south on U.S. 227 when he went across the centerline and lost control while attempting to correct, state troopers said. The SUV went airborne, overturned several times, and ejected Miller from the vehicle.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

State police said excessive speed and drug use are suspected as factors in the crash. Investigators also noted several grams of meth, a potent mix of synthetic opiods known as “gray death,” and $1,300 in cash were found near the SUV after the crash.

Additional details were not released.
