Reynolds & Reynolds partners with Habitat for Humanity to build homes for local families

DAYTON — Over 100 volunteers constructed the frames of two single-family homes during the sixth Habitat for Humanity Build, hosted by Reynolds Associate Foundation on Saturday.

Dave Bates, Vice President of Customer Relations at Reynolds & Reynolds, told News Center 7 that projects like this are based on the donations and volunteer works of associates.

“At the end of the day we want to help, we want our community to flourish and grow,” Bates said.

David Mauch, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Dayton Development Director, said that the two panels, or frames, that were constructed would later be moved for construction to finish.

Daniel Hakizayezu and his family of five are one of the families who’s home was constructed today. The Hakizayezu family emigrated to the United States for Uganda. Hakizayezu said he came to America for educational reasons.

Donovan Taylor and his family have been working with Habitat for Humanity for several years. For him, the new home means a lot since his family recently grew with the arrival of a baby girl on Thursday.

“It means a lot to me to here and be part of such a great organization and association,” Taylor said.

Both families have completed 550 hours of “sweat equity” by helping build Habitat for Humanity houses for other families to get the opportunity to have their own home built. The homes are sold to the family for a zero percent interest mortgage payment, according to Mauch.

Mauch said the first home will be constructed in Huber Heights this fall and winter. The frame for the second home will be put in storage. Construction on the second home will take place in the spring and summer of 2022.
