Man shot after gun accidentally discharges at Miami Twp. gun store

MIAMI TWP. — UPDATE @ 3:50 p.m. 

A military veteran was injured at the Miami Armory this afternoon with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the buttocks, said owner David Becker.

Becker said the man shot himself while reholstering a semi-automatic weapon he was showing an armory employee. He said the man, who he declined to identify, was alert before being taken by medic to an area hospital.

Becker said no other individuals were near the location where the gun discharged.

The man who was wounded is a military veteran and range safety officer who purchases items at the armory on Kingsridge Drive frequently, Becker said.

The holster’s “leather grabbed the trigger and he shot himself in the buttocks.,” Becker said. “So I’m sure his pride hurt a little more than his buttocks do.”

A gun accidentally discharged while a man put it into a holster in a rear pocket at The Miami Armory in Miami Twp. Friday.

The man suffered a gunshot wound to the buttocks and received treatment by medics at the scene before he was transferred to an area hospital.

Police said the incident is being investigated as an accident and no charges are expected to be filed.

Police and medics have responded to reports of an accidental shooting at The Miami Armory in Miami Twp. Friday afternoon.

Emergency crews responded to the gun store at 8945 Kingsridge Drive around 2:45 p.m. after the accidental discharge was reported.

Initial reports indicate the victim was hit by a bullet after the gun discharged while they were putting it into a holster.
