UPDATE: Man rescued from Mercer County silo dies from his injuries

MERCER COUNTY — A man rescued from a silo on a Mercer County property died from his injuries at a Dayton area hospital, according to Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey.

Timothy Dirksen, 39, was pulled from the silo after he was overcome by fumes in the structure and was flown by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital where he later died, Grey said in a media release.

Rescue crews were initially called to the 800 block of Cassella-Montezuma Road around 10:30 a.m. on initial reports of a man trapped inside a 90-foot silo.

Dirksen was doing maintenance inside the silo when he was overcome by the gas inside the structure, Osgood Fire Chief Frank Miller told News Center 7.

Firefighters started CPR while he was still in the silo and were initially able to resuscitate him, Miller said.

Five fire departments all sent crews to the scene, including Osgood, North Star, Celina, Burkettsville, and Chickasaw.

Additional details were not released.
