Man finds gun while walking dog in Dayton

DAYTON — A man walking his dog Sunday evening found a firearm in a field, according to a Dayton police report.

The man said he was returning from a walk with his dog when he stumbled upon a gun in a field by the intersection of Cornell Drive and Harvard Boulevard, read the report.

He reportedly did not have anything to wrap around the firearm, so he picked it up bare-handed.

Police removed a live round from the chamber of the Smith & Wesson SD40VE, according to the report.

The magazine was reportedly loaded with eight live rounds.

Officers also went to the field and noted an indentation in the grass where the gun was found, read the report.
