The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is issuing a public health alert for ready-to-eat ham product sold in Ohio because it may not be fully cooked.
The firm discovered that the product did not appear to be fully cooked, leading to an investigation which revealed that the ham was under-processed, according to FSIS.

According to the alert, the ready-to-eat, sliced Black Forest Ham item was produced by Plumrose USA, doing business as Swift Prepared Foods, from April 28, 2022 through May 1, 2022. It’s specific product in question is:
- 1-lb resealable plastic packages containing “Great Value Black Forest Ham Water Added” with a “BEST IF USED BY 07/15/22″ date.
The product was marked with establishment number “EST. 26C” inside the USDA mark of inspection.
The alert stated that the item was shipped to Walmart stores in Ohio, Illinois and Indiana.

A recall of the product was not requested by FSIS because it was believed that the product wasn’t available for purchase anymore. The agency said they were concerned that the product may in customers’ refrigerators or freezers and recommend that they be thrown out.
FSIS said there haven’t been any confirmed adverse reactions due to consumption to the ham, but anyone concerned about illness should contact their healthcare provider.
