Premier Health’s top doctor beats cancer with son by his side

MIAMI VALLEY — The doctor helping run one of the Miami Valley’s biggest hospital systems during the pandemic fought his own battle.

Dr. Marc Belcastro is now in remission from lymphoma.

“I would say I’m about 90 to 95 percent back to where I was before I started,” Dr. Belcastro said.

From the start, his son was by his side.

“It was great to work here while my dad was getting treatment here,” Marc Belcastro II said.

The younger Belcastro is a primary care physician and advanced practitioner recruiter for Premier Health.

“Although his physical strength waned when he was going through cancer treatment, the strength of his character, of his faith continued to resound and glow and I think that as a continual model for both me and my family, and also for his friends and family in the hospital,” Belcastro II said.

Meanwhile, outside of the hospital Belcastro II was getting his own recognition.

Dayton Business Journal named him in the 2021 Forty under 40.

“It’s interesting, you know a son may say ‘my father’s a role model for me.’ Marc’s a role model for me,” Dr. Belcastro said.
