Crisis counselors on hand today after teen killed in weekend crash

Crisis counselors will be available today after a Preble Shawnee student was killed in a weekend crash.

Wyatt Clevenger, 16, a junior, was enrolled in the criminal justice program at the Miami Valley Career Technology Center. He played on the Preble Shawnee Arrows soccer team, according to the district.

Clevenger was thrown from his vehicle after striking a guardrail on Wayne Trace Road near Somers Gratis Road at 11 p.m. Saturday, according to a press release from the Preble County Sheriff’s Office.

The teen, driving a 2002 Toyota, was northbound on Wayne Trace Road when he drove off the left side of the road before crashing.

He died at the scene. He was the only person in the vehicle.

Evidence indicated speed and wet roads may have been a factor in the crash, according to the release.

The crash remains under investigation.
