Dozens show support in Xenia for Kettering teen battling rare cancer

Dozens of people gathered this morning at Xenia Grace Chapel to pray for a 14-year-old girl battling a rare form of cancer.

Abby Montgomery of Kettering is having surgery Monday for embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma, which is a secondary cancer after she was diagnosed with a rare form of lung cancer when she was 5, her mother, Rhonda Montgomery said at the church, 100 Grace Road in Xenia.

“It’s definitely overwhelming,” Rhonda Montgomery said of the support her family is receiving. “It’s good to see we have a lot of family who came in and people we don’t even know who came in, so it’s overwhelming.”

A prayer gathering for Abby Montgomery, 14, of Kettering, will be held Sunday morning at Xenia Grace Chapel.

The community will gather at 10:30 a.m. at the church, 100 Grace Drive to pray for Abby, who is battling cancer for a second time, said her father, Kevin Montgomery.

She was diagnosed with embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma and will have surgery Monday, her father said.

Abby and her brother Kaleb were both diagnosed with a rare form of lung cancer when they were 5 but three years apart, according to Kevin Montgomery.
