Those initial reports were confirmed once officers arrived on scene and saw that the man was ‘actively discharging guns,' stated a press release from the Wapakoneta Police Department.

Investigators evacuated the apartment complex and requested the Allen County Bomb Squad to assist them after hearing comments about possible secondary devices. The Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office also assisted with the call.

No devices were located and the man’s apartment was clear. Officers on scene were able to talk with witnesses and confirm that the initial reports were correct and the man was in fact in the hallway shooting a long gun.

Police are applying for a search warrant to continue the investigation.

The suspect was arrested and formal charges are currently pending.

The Wapakoneta Police Department and the Bureau of Criminal Investigations are working to secure the apartment.

We will continue to update this story as we learn more about the investigation.
