Piqua man sentenced to prison for a 10th time

TROY — A Piqua man is on his way to prison for the 10th time after sentencing in a Miami County court for the theft of a tools from trucks at a Piqua business.

"I am not proud of my record," Jeff Mowery, 51, told Judge Jeannine Pratt before sentencing this week in county Common Pleas Court. He said his most recent troubles come from heroin addiction.

Pratt was told that Mowery had served nine previous prison terms starting in 1985 for a variety of charges such as forgery, attempted drug abuse, theft, domestic violence, disorderly conduct and receiving stolen property.

Paul Watkins, assistant county prosecutor, said Mowery's repeated criminal conduct showed he was not remorseful for his actions.

Mowery asked Pratt to consider allowing him to participate in a drug treatment program.

"You are beyond rehabilitation," Pratt said, telling Mowery he could look into treatment programs in prison.

Mowery was sentenced for theft of tools from Browning Plumbing in Piqua. He was ordered to pay $3,734 restitution to the business.

He was sentenced to 11 months in prison and given credit for 11 days served in the county jail.
