Piqua HS closes today due to Snapchat threat rumors

Piqua High School will be closed Friday amid threatening social media messages sent anonymously to students.

A video on Snapchat with threats of a school shooting began circulating Wednesday, Piqua police said.

In the high school building Thursday, rumors escalated, which led to an early dismissal, Piqua City Schools Superintendent Dwayne Thompson stated in a message to high school parents.

According to his message, students were placed on lockdown to make sure everyone was safe. “There was no gun present and the early release, again, was precautionary,” Thompson said.

Staff will still report to school on Friday.
