Bicyclist struck, killed in Troy ID’d

TROY — A bicyclist was killed late Saturday morning after he was struck by an SUV while riding on West Main Street.

  • Bicyclist identified as 71-year-old Daniel Ball
  • He was pronounced dead at the scene
  • Motorist taken to hospital as precaution

Troy police said Ball was traveling west in the curb lane in the 900 block of West Main Street just before noon when he was struck by the sport-utility vehicle also headed west, Troy police Capt. Joe Long said.

Ball was not wearing a helmet and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. His body was taken to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office for an autopsy.

The driver of the SUV was injured, police said, but was taken to Upper Valley Medical Center in Troy as a precaution.

The crash remains under investigation.
