Over $600K in energy cost saved during ‘Bring Your Green’ challenge

‘Bring Your Green 2.0 Challenge’ winners were awarded Friday by Dayton Regional Green, DP&L, Vectren, Energy Optimizers, and IGS Energy, according to a release.

200 buildings signed up for the challenge, in which local organizations competed to reduce their environmental impact, save energy and resources, and engage their employees and students in sustainability efforts.

Local businesses, organizations and schools from Montgomery and surrounding counties were recognized for their environmental commitment, read the release.

  • Over 6,875 tons of CO2 release into the atmosphere prevented (equivalent to filling 19 Kettering Tower buildings or planting 210,359 trees)
  • Diverted more than 1,712 tons of waste from landfills
  • $639,644 saved in energy costs
  • 6,867,064 kWh in electricity saved
  • 180,557 CCF in gas saved
  • Equivalent to taking 935 homes off the grid and 1,336 cars off the road
  • More than 100 student teams taking sustainability challenges
  • Hundreds of employees engaged; 14,125 clicks at employee challenges site

“As part of the county’s commitment to a greener region, we continue to expand our efforts to encourage our local businesses, organizations and individuals to save resources and reduce their environmental impact,” said Montgomery County Commission President Debbie Lieberman. “We are absolutely thrilled with the continued expansion of our programs, and the level of participation we have had in this year’s Bring Your Green Challenge is very exciting.”
